Possibilities of Bimanual Training of Upper Limb Coordination with People after Brain Damage with Hemiparesis

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of selected bimanual training with people after brain damage with hemiparesis. The bachelor thesis is both theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part are presented the most common causes of brain damage that lead to hemiparesis. Then selected unimanual approaches are described, which focus mainly on the paretic upper limb in therapy. They are followed by bimanual approaches, which emphasize the coordination and involvement of both upper limbs. The unimanual ones are Constraint-induced movement therapy, Robotic Assisted Therapy, Functional Electrostimulation, and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation. Bimanual approaches include the HABIT method, COMbined modified constraint induced movement therapy and bimanual intensive training, Mirror therapy, Bilateral isokinematic training, and Task-Oriented bilateral training. The practical part contains a created set of model bimanual activities, which include a total of 13 activities, from personal and instrumental everyday activities. Thesis title: Occupational therapy treatment strategies in patients with upper limb peripheral nerve injury Thesis abstract: Peripheral nerve injuries of upper limb are often identified by sensory and motor control deficit. Limitations are most likely evident in their performance of activities of daily living (ADL), leisure and work activities. Significant neurogenic pain is a typically included and can cause poor quality of life. The result of injury is not only affecting the physical area, but also psychological and socio- economic aspects. Treatment is often time-consuming and there is an uncertain prognosis. The overview of the issue summarizes basic information, identification of specific peripheral nerve of upper limb (radial, median, ulnar) and their functional deficits. Author: Veronika Hejtmánková Title: Injuries from the chronic overload in climbers and prevention options - literature review Objective: The aim of this thesis is to determine significant so-called biomechanic risk factors for upper extremity injuries from overload in climbers and prevention options to reduce these so-called biomechanic risk factors for upper extremity injuries from overload in climbers. Methods: This thesis is processed in form of literature review. 7 electronic databases (EBSCO, MEDLINE Complete, PEDro, PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus with FullText, Web of Science) were searched using keywords. From primarily searched 1824 titles were chosen using inclusion and exclusion criteria 13 studies. Results: The most frequently addressed significant so-called biomechanic risk factor for upper extremity injury in climbers is the crimp grip. Other significant so-called biomechanic risk factors for upper extremity injury in climbers are isolated grip and dead point technique in two-handed dyno. Analysis of the movement of upper extremity during offensive stroke in female badminton players.

Title: Analysis of the motion of dominant upper extremity during offensive stroke in badminton performed by elite female players Objectives: Objective of my master thesis is to analyse movement of a dominant upper extremity during offensive stroke in badminton and to point out possible risk factors for injuries and soft tissue overload problems in the region of the upper limb. Methods: The theoretical part deals with anatomical and kinesiological description of upper extremities. Then there is a description of the motion on the court and upper strokes in badminton and movements of upper extremity during the strokes. The practical part deals with measuring of rotations in shlouder joints and with analysis of motion of upper extremity during offensive stroke in badminton. It is focused on measuring the range of motion, angular velocity and angular acceleration in joints of dominant upper extremity. The Xsens MVN was used to record motion. Results: The results showed that the internal rotation in the shoulder joint on the dominant upper limb during active movement examination is reduced in elite female badminton players. OF THE BACHELOR THESIS Title: The Instrumental Stimulation of the Superficial and Deep Sensation in Upper Limb Therapy by Clients with Acquired Brain Injury Abstract: The bachelor thesis deals with the device SaeboStim Micro and its use within sensory therapy of the upper extremity that is experienced by people with acquired brain injury. The device uses a so called sensory electrical stimulation (without muscle contraction) that affects different dysfunctions, besides sensation. In the theoretical part is summarized the knowledge about acquired brain injury (traumatic and nontraumatic) and its consequences, further knowledge about sensation and its impairments and the principles and possibilities of sensory assessments. In this part it is also possible to find information about rehabilitation for people with acquired brain injury and about SaeboStim Micro. The aim of this thesis was to determine the efficiency of the SaeboStim Micro device in therapy of sensation of the upper extremity of three people with acquired brain injury in the chronic stage. Title of diploma thesis: Grasps evaluation in patients after a stroke Objective: The main goal of the pilot study was to determine minimal clinically important difference in selected tests focusing on improvement in the grasps of patients in the chronic phase post stroke. The main hypothesis was set to prove that the differences between the initial and final assessments based on the Modified Frenchay Scale characterizes patients' improvement more accurately than the Score for visual evaluation of functional task of the hand. Methods: The research group consisted of 40 participants (26 men and 14 women) all in the post stroke chronic phase who were selected based on the criteria for inclusion in the research. Data was collected at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and the First Faculty of Medicine. Using video documentation of the Modified Frenchay Scale used during both the initial and final assessment, the test itself was then analysed. A 3rd subtest was also used to evaluate the Score for visual evaluation of functional task of the hand. Those patients often have to deal with upper limb impairment which leads to decrese of quality of life. Relevant studies focused on this topic were searched via key words in PubMed, Web of Science and OVID Evidence Based Medicine Reviews databasis. Efficiency of Robot-assisted Therapy through the Device Armeo Spring in Patients after Stroke in Acute Phase of Early Rehabilitation

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of robotic-assisted therapy, namely with the mechanical exoskeleton robotic device Armeo Spring, and it is focused on an acute stroke population. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of a robotic-assisted therapy using Armeo Spring device and to compare it with the efficiency of a common individual occupational therapy focused on improving motor function of upper extremity of patients with the acute stroke. There were 19 patients involved in the research, who were hospitalized in early rehabilitation acute beds. They were selected on the basis of entry criteria and further divided into two groups. An experimental group included 10 participants (n=10), a control group included 9 participants (n=9). The patients in the experimental group using Armeo Spring device underwent four to five 30-minutes therapies per week for three week period, the control group underwent the same amount of individual occupational therapies focused on improving motor function of a paretic upper limp. Each participant, evaluated before and after the intervention, underwent the total number of 12 therapy sessions.
